Curriculum Corner

This month we will be focusing on the following curriculum elements in Grade 7/8R

Math:  We will be exploring factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, exponents, squares and square roots, and order of operations.  We will be working with three part math lessons, and evaluation will be done through the Assessment Focus Journal and a Unit Test, along with anecdotal notes.

Literacy:  We are currently working on paragraph writing.  We will be starting short stories soon.
We are also working on making connections and writing a proper Reader Response.  Students will need a novel for independent reading.

Religion:  We are studying the gifts of the Holy Spirit this month.  We are examining how we can use our own personal gifts to make the world a better place.

Science/Geography:  The Grade 7s will be learning Pure Substances and Mixtures, while the Grade 8s will begin their geography unit 1.

Phys-Ed: Mondays we will be focusing on fitness activities like the beep test, yoga, push-ups, squats, skipping, etc, Wednesdays we will be doing aerobics videos, and Fridays are game days.  All activities will focus on improving cardiovascular health and building strength.

Arts:  We will rotate the arts, one week working on a visual art piece, one week dance and one week drama.  At times we will work on one piece for three or four weeks.

We are also in charge of preparing the first mass, on October 14th at Corpus Christie Parish.
