Current Events: An On-Going Assignment

Learning Goal: Current Events

Students will demonstrate an understanding of what is going on in the world around them, and prepare a discussion for the class in order to have more informed opinions.

Requirements:

1. Choose an article from the newsela website, newspaper, or magazine.  
2. On Thursdays one student will present their article and lead a discussion about its' content.
3. Photocopies must be made for the class, therefore the teacher must have the article to approve and copy for the class by Wed.
4. Discussion will be two-three questions prepared by you, the presenter, that will be analyzed in small groups.  
5. Appropriate video clips may accompany your presentation.
6. Articles must be retrieved from a nonbiased reputable source.
7. Response: A Reader Response Question will be given by the presenter for the class to answer in their Reader Response Journal.
